I’m sure all of you are pretty excited that spring has finally came and the weather is nice enough to sit out on a patio. Last week I met with my friends Rick and Bruno at the Albion in Bayfield and had a great meal outside while enjoying the village main street!
The three of us sat on the far north end of the patio and watched as the whole restaurant filled up. It was wing night! The Albion serves typical pub fare and has a variety of unique menu specialties including the ABC Albion Sammy (cheese, bacon and apples on rye), The Dopey Burger (Open faced burger with gravy, mushrooms and onions), and the sweet potato enchilada.
Menu items range from $10 – $20 with some appetizers under and some entrees a bit over, but all in all very reasonable! They als0 have a large variety of beer on tap! Thursday night is Wing night, Friday – All you can eat Fish and Chips and on Saturday, Prime Rib is the Special. I hear that during the winter they do a really cool trivia night. I had been wanting to check out the new paintings that were done over the winter and was impressed with how much they changed the atmosphere of the place!
If you are looking for a nice weekend away, Bayfield is a great place to visit, especially during the summer. The Albion is also a hotel and they rent rooms for $115 – $155 and that includes a continental breakfast. For more information about the Albion hotel visit their website at www.thealbionhotel.com

Yesterday afternoon my boss was nice enough to let me off at lunch time so that I could participate in Bayfield’s annual restaurant volleyball tournament. On the 2nd Tuesday in August every summer, all the Bayfield restaurants get together to compete for the title of the volleyball champions! It gets pretty competitive, until about four o’clock when everyone has maybe had a drink or two too many.
I was fortunate enough to play with the winning team, THE BLACK DOG!!! for years we have come so close, so very close to the title. But this year we had focus and determination and we brought home the trophy!
I am being slightly sarcastic here, yes we were very happy to win, but the tournament is all in good fun!
It was the perfect afternoon too! Hot and sunny. What else could you want in an afternoon. Good weather, good friends, and the beach. Perfection!
After the tournament, all the teams headed to the Docks for celebrations and dinner!
This is part of the team, sitting and admiring the trophy.
The Docks was great as always. The food was delish and the service was stellar, Especially considering how many of us showed up at once! They took good care of every body! And like every year. the tournament was a complete success, and everyone enjoyed themselves!

I spent a couple of hours at the Huron County Museum with some co-workers not too long ago and re-visited many childhood memories! The museum is filled with many really cool items and right now they have a Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) exhibit called Fakes and Forgeries. The exhibit is really neat and interactive, I had great fun with Nina trying to figure out which item was real and which one was fake!
We checked out all of the old favourites, and then headed downtown to cravings for ice cream and then the Park House for a refreshing drink!
OK, so this is very big and very exciting news for me! As I mentioned last night i went to Thyme on 21 for dinner, after that I decided to head to the Black Dog to have a drink and watch the Leaf game. I sat up at the bar and looked up, and it was amazing. Right in front of me was the RADLER! Now, if you are unsure of what the Radler is, I will now inform you/change your life forever. The Radler is a beer that is brewed in Austria from the company stiegle. Now what makes this beer so special you ask? Well, what makes it special is that the Radler is a grapefruit beer! Its light, a little fizzy and tastes like grapefruit! It is ridiculously delicious! Especially on those hot summer days! Its absolutely refreshing. Its unique because its only 2.5%, so you can drink quite a few, and not make a total fool of yourself which is always nice. I know the Radler is nearly impossible to get on draft, but leave it to Ted ( the owner of the Black Dog) to find a way to bring it back! I hope you are all as excited as i am about this! O and a little side note, if you do want your Radler to me a wee bit stronger than a 2.5%, you can always add a shot of vodka to it, little pricey, but totally worth it! If you need to get a hold of me in the next few weeks, I’ll likely be at the pub having a Radler or two :)
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
