Yeah Taste of Huron!

13 Jun

By: Diva Jenna

Food isn’t just something that I use to satisfy hunger, I dream about it, make new recipes, create different things and of course spend hours at local Huron County restaurants looking through menu’s and tasting the bounty!

Huron has been celebrating locally grown food for a long time and considering that Huron produces so much food, we should try to celebrate all the time (you know I do). I am excites to finally announce that the 2011 Taste of Huron event is happening from August 29 – September 11. This year the event is even bigger, we’ve partnered up with the West Coast Bluesfest and the Huron Pioneer Threshers. This means that there will be 30 events happening across Huron County in 14 days!

Another exciting part of the Taste of Huron is the wonderful entertainment that will be going on during the event. During the Goderich Farmers Market on Saturday, September 3 Chef’s Andrea Nicholson and Rob Rossi from Top Chef Canada will be judging the local chef competition and then dualing against each other. That same day there is also a tasty blues cafe and two more Blues concerts.

I will be posting on a weekly basis about the events, so i’ll just give you a taste of what is happening for right now! I will say that I am most excited for the 2011 Gala dinner, 5 courses, 5 wines and awesome entertainment for only $100 on September 11! Most of the events are posted and there is everything from Food For thought Dinners, to Culinary Workshops, Locavore Lunches, Brunch’N Blues and more, check out the website at: www.tasteofhuron.ca

A visitor from Banff – Part 1

23 May

My friend Marie from Banff called me up one day and said she was coming for a visit to Ontario. She said she had never been here and wanted me to show her around “Ontario’s West Coast.” She was only here for two days, but we were able to cram in lots of food and fun! First we made a stop at Shanahan’s Quality Meats in Goderich, where we picked up O’Briens sausage, bread and cheese. This place has some awesome local meat and unique food items.

Marie at my houseJennaWhen we got to my house Marie said she wanted to make us an appetizer dish, she mixed fresh garlic, brie cheese, olive oil and local maple syrup and baked it in the oven. Let me just say… yummy! It was so delicious and simple, we finished every drop.

For dinner we barbecued sausage and potatoes and had a spinach salad and wine with it. By the time we finished dinner it was time to go to bed and prepare for the next day!

I will be posting our next days adventure tomorrow, so make sure to check back!

Attention all food lovers!!-

7 Mar

Attention all food lovers!!!

Black Dog is open and ready for business! After working for the Black Dog for over four years, I became accustomed to enjoying amazing food and drink on the regular! However, for about a month the Black Dog closed down for renovations, I was going through some serious chicken club and fruili withdrawal! But, as of last Thursday the restaurant has re-opened! Obviously I was there for the opening day to get my chicken club, but get this I didn’t even get the club! Crazy I know! The menu had too many tasty new items to try, so I decided to be adventurous, and it paid off. I ordered the calamari as an app, and the fried eggplant sandwich. Move over club, you have some serious competition!! As usual the food was awesome, and I am pumped to go back and try the chicken divan that’s on the dinner menu, ill let you know how it goes, but I can guarantee it will be wicked!

Lovin me some Huron County

7 Mar

Hey all! Kaylie here,

As Jenna already mentioned her and I will be working together to create a blog about our local experiences. I am 24 years old and was born and raised just outside of Goderich. After highschool I attended Wilfred Laurier University and graduated with a degree in communications. To get me through financially, I came home each summer and worked at the Black Dog in Bayfield. School is now done which means I don’t have to work quite as hard J . My summers were always so hectic that I had little to no time to actually enjoy what was surrounding me. My beach days were limited, I had no time to eat out, I didn’t get to enjoy local theatre ect.  So I decided to take a summer to appreciate, what I feel I ignored in the past. I always spoke about loving the small town life, but I feel I have not taken full advantage of what Huron County has to offer, so for my blog I want to share with you all my experiences and showcase what our area has to offer. I am going to be Captain Huron County!  If its local, ill be there! I am going to make the very best of this spring and summer and I am looking forward to sharing my experiences with you all!!!

_Kaylie
