I have not watched the Academy Awards in about 6 years, as I haven’t had cable and I usually spend my Sunday evenings at home! This year my friend Kate Johnston, who is the manager of the Livery in Goderich, mentioned to me that there was a Livery fundraiser Oscar Night at the Parkhouse in Goderich and that it was a formal dress-up night. I realized that all I had for formal wear were my prom dresses and a couple of other dresses that were very tight. So I went with the larger of the tight dresses! I arrived at the Parkhouse at around 7:30 and our Hosts Ben Scholton and Ian Doyle had already started the evening commentary. I really felt like a star myself! The ticket price of $15.00 included a glass of sparkling wine, tons of door prizes and ½ price appetizers. I hadn’t had dinner, so I ordered a BLTC (Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and Cheese) sandwhich… I know it doesn’t sound glamourous, but it sure hit the spot for me!

We were each given ballots to put our votes in on all of the awards. I had seen 4 of the movies, so I had to do some “educated” guesses. There were prizes for best dressed, male and female and of course a prize was given to the person who scored highest on the awards list. The awards were fun, but I would have to say my favourite part was the photo booth. As you can see from the pictures we had a lot of fun! I hope the Livery has more entertaining nights such as these and it was great to spend the night with friends at the Parkhouse!

The Livery hosts the Goderich Little Theatre, The Livery Film Fest and Live! at the Livery. If you are looking to see a great theatre production, one is starting on March 15. I’ll Be Back Back Before Midnight” Written by Peter Colley and Directed by Nina Reynolds, sounds to me like it is going to be a great murder mystery show! Bagpipes and Sunsets

My co-worker and I have been trying to get video footage at as many events on Ontario’s West Coast as possible. We have been spending some evenings and weekends and have got to see some amazing things and try some very unique things! This past Friday was really great! We headed to the Cove beach in Goderich and  watched as the Celtic Blue Highlanders pipe band piped down the sun.

I am not kidding you, there were hundreds of people at the event! This phenomenon seems to be a Lake Huron thing and it happens every Friday in July and August. We watched families and friends gather all around the pipe band and listen to the music. Many of the children started dancing and running around the band, which was in a circular formation. People travel from all over Ontario, Canada and the world to watch this event, most of the people attending where from out of the area.

After we watched the pipe band for a while we headed over to the beach and watched the sunset, it was so warm outside that people where still swimming in the Lake. What a wonderful end to a Friday evening!

Time for a campfire and s’mores

Marshmallows have never been a favourite snack of mine, but s’mores on the other hand are something that I have always enjoyed. They bring back memories from my childhood and even in to my teen years. You really can’t have a campfire without s’mores and spider dogs in my opinion!

I want S'more!!!Loving my s'moreA few days ago, we decided to have an evening campfire. It was our first of the summer, so I got out the graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate, within minutes we were eating our campfire favourite and having a blast!

As you can see from the pictures, it wasn’t even dark yet, but the fire was nice and hot and perfect for marshmallow roasting!

I have also come across some gourmet recipes, so I thought I would post them here! ENJOY!

I would say that spending time with family on the Shores of Lake Huron is the best summer beach vacation ever. Plus you can always have a great campfire!






Mint Brownie S’mores

For the true chocolate lover!

  • 2 brownies, squares (or 1 brownie square and 1 graham cracker square)
  • 8 -10 Junior mints
  • 1 marshmallow


Prep Time: 5 mins

Total Time: 10 mins

  1. 1 Place the mints on the bottom brownie or graham cracker square and melt slightly.
  2. 2 When melted place a roasted marshmallow on top.
  3. 3 Top with another brownie square.

Chocolate and Peanut Butter S’mores

from –

Anyone who’s outgrown classic s’mores will love this version: gooey-sweet melted marshmallow tempered by bittersweet chocolate cookies and salty roasted peanuts.

Spread 1 tablespoon peanut butter (at room temperature, for easy spreading) onto a thin, crisp chocolate water (such as Nabisco Famous Chocolate Waters).

Slide 1 skewer-toasted marshmallow onto peanut butter. Top with a second wafer and squish down gently. Eat, licking fingers.

I think about food all the time! Huron is one of the most agriculturally productive counties in Ontario and we have some of the best culinary treats around! I’m going to be regularly posting about the different events that are happening during the two week event!

During the 2011 Taste of Huron there are going to be 7 Food For Thought dinners and 2 Locavore Luncheons. They are happening on week days in between August 29 & September 9. These meals include three courses, plus an interesting foodie topic, they don’t break the bank at $40 for the dinners and $20 for the lunches and they take place all across the County.

Up, Up and Above!

Yesterday I went to the Above the Falls Challenge Course with work and boy was it a fun time! I would say team building and communication challenges are in my top 10 of things to do. The Challenge Course has something for everyone all the way from basic to advanced skills. Rob Bundy and Craig Harrison were our guides for the day and they did an awesome job! I would recommend this attraction to anyone, I hope you can all make it out sometime soon!

When we first arrived Rob had the whole group of us do a couple of “get to know each other” games and then we headed out on the course. We were split in to two groups, I was in a group where we had to “build a bridge” consisting of 3 pieces of wood and 5 posts to put the wood in. Long story short we had to do a bit of balancing and physical work, but spent most of the time trying how to figure out how to get all of us across.

Next we headed to the climbing tower where we suited up in harnesses and helmets. This is where we all got to look pretty nerdy! Everyone got a chance to climb or sit and watch. I will say… I could not make it to the top, this proves to me that I need to work harder and get stronger. I also came home with a giant bruise on my arm, in which Rob and Craig called a “medal.” We had such an awesome day and I can’t wait to go back and make it to the top. We had some really fast climbers in the group and it was really great to see! Oh and of course, I can’t forget the food… We had the lunch catered in from the Benmiller Inn, they made us a paperless lunch which consisted of an assortment of pitas, veggies and dip, fruit and homemade dessert buns, yummy!!!
