Before I tell you about my most recent Winterlicious I wanted to make sure that you all know that there are only 4 days left to try out these amazing 3 course meals for $29.00. To find menus and information visit: www.tasteofhuron.ca

Last Friday I headed out to the Black Dog Pub in Bayfield to try out their Winterlicious menu. My three friends Ang, Nisa and Nat joined me and it turned out to be a wonderful evening! I was the only person to order the specific Winterlicious meal and it was yummy!

One of the great things about this facility is the bar offereings, many choices in liquors, beers and wines. Now there was a confusion with the first course, I read the cheddar and ale portion of the menu and thought it was soup. Well I think I need a lesson in reading, cause the first course was actually Traditional Potted Cheddar with Mill Street Organic Tankhouse Ale and Toasted Olive Bread. So it turned out to be cheese and bread. The cheese was very strong and had a unique flavor and the olive bread was nice.

Nat ordered the village salad and Ang got the beet salad, both of which I have had and I must say that the beet salad is one of my favourite courses at the Black Dog.

The second course that I had was Pan-Seared Metzger Smoked Pork Chop with Herbed Stuffing, Mustard-Cider Cream, Braised Red Cabbage and Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes. The mashed potatoes where so creamy and even with all of the food on the plate I wanted more!

We joked about having favourites and Nat and Ang both got what they normally get. It’s great to try something new, but if you love something it is sometimes what you have to go with. Nat got the curry, which is a favourite of many and Ang got the weth’s mushrooms on toast with brie, which looked super scrumptious. Nisa tried something she had never had before the pasta e verdure, which comes in a lovely cream sauce and has weth’s mushrooms in it as well!

For the final course my mouth was exploding with love for the Apple Fritter with Vanilla Ice Cream and Butterscotch Sauce. My friends Selena and Meighan were both trying out the Winterlicious the same night and both stopped by the table before leaving to pump me up about the Apple Fritter. It really was a treat. Nat and Nisa both got the sticky toffee pudding, we’ve had it before and it is amazing! Overall we had a wonderful evening with superb food!

Taste of Huron is over :(

13 Sep

Hello all!!!

Alright so just this past weekend, Taste of Huron came to an end… I had mixed feelings about this. I was slightly saddened. For two weeks I ate the best food that Huron County had to offer. A minimum of three courses, all which included a fantastic dessert! I ate at the Blyth Inn, the Black Dog, the Little Inn, Eddingtons, Hessenland, the Fireside Cafe and finally I finished the Taste of Huron of with the Gala. All the restaurants were so fantastic and I enjoyed them all.

I am however feeling a slight sense of relief.. I ate soooo much in the last two weeks, I wont lie to you. I may have gained a few pounds, but it was totally  worth it!

I will provide a short slideshow of just a few of the delicious things I was able to consume ..

Jealous?

YOU SHOULD BE! that was only about a quarter of what I got to eat! But no worries my friends, the Taste of Huron is an annual event and now you KNOW that you MUST come and attend Taste of Huron next year!

Best Burger Ever!

21 May

Happy May 2-4 everyone!

So far so good on the weather situation, lets all cross our fingers and hope the sunshine continues! I mentioned to you yesterday that I started my celebrations of the long weekend on Thursday night when I went to Fine, in Grand Bend for dinner. Well I continued my celebrations on Friday afternoon as well. Grocery shopping seemed too stressful for me yesterday so I decided I would head to the Black Dog to try out the brand spankin new menu for lunch. I gotta say it looks delish. With a larger menu than ever before the options seem endless. Most of the classics are still on the menu, there are just more options now. For example there are FIVE burgers to choose from. I am not even a huge burger fan, but these looked too good to pass up!!!

For an appetizer I split risotto balls, they were not called risoitto balls on the menu, I cant remember the exact name but basically its risotto that’s breaded and lightly fried on top of marinara sauce. I then orderd the Irish burger: 8 oz beef, double smoked bacon, sage derby cheese (it’s green and tastes like Christmas stuffing, so good!) and some form of mustard. While my friend ordered the Scottish burger. I cant remember exactly what’s on it but it had homemade onion rings on top, and that’s all you really need to know! Soooo good!

As always the Black Dog served up a great meal!!

Kaylie loves lunch dates.

18 Apr

Today i was beginning to feel guilty about how often i actually go out and eat, and then it hit me, I dont feel guilty, I LOVE IT, and technically it is part of my job right? I have to let everyone know the best places to go, the best items to order etc. So if i am going to be giving advice, i really need to know my stuff. Thats why today, and Saturday, i did more research. I have written about both of these places before, but i did get something different to tell you all about!

Friday for lunch i went to my go to, The Black Dog, I ordered smoked salmon on rye bread with home made herbed cream cheese, red onion, capers, and a spinach salad. My one friend had the classic chicken club with chips and aoili, and my other ordered the special, which was a tuna melt panini, with smoked cheddar and fresh dill, and as always everything was delish!

Today, i met with another group of friends and headed back to J’s Bistro. Two of us had the special, quiche with spinach and feta cheese, turkey chowder soup and house salad, with my other friends having the house salad with grilled salmon. It was very tasty!!
